Message from Team Captain PecanPie

Hello SU2C team!

As most of you know, the next Stand Up to Cancer broadcast will air this Friday, Sept. 5th 8PM EDT/ 5 PM PDT. In addition, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month which makes this the perfect time to donate to the Crush Kids' Cancer team. We've already raised over $92K and we'd like to break the $100K mark this year. The closer we can get to this mark by the broadcast, the louder the voice we give to this still underfunded group of patients.

For those of you who have already donated, thank you so much for your generosity! If you haven't had the chance to donate, you can click HERE to donate!

With a team membership over 1100, even a $1 donation can help, but if you'd like to show your support with or without donating, please join our Thunderclap through your Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr account by clicking HERE!

A HUGE "Thank You" to Ashley, President of The Kids' Chapter for spearheading the thunderclap and this year's fundraising campaign.

OK. Go Getters, Go Get 'Em!

Pecan Pie out!

Crush Kids' Cancer: David Archuleta's Angels 2014 Summer Fundraising Challenge

In the past, Stand Up 2 Cancer would a 2-week long summer fundraising challenge right before their televised broadcast. This year, although SU2C will be doing their broadcast on September 5, 2014, they are not hosting a fundraising challenge like years past.

So, I thought, just because SU2C isn't doing a challenge, that doesn't mean Crush Kids' Cancer can't!

Starting today, August 22, until Stand Up 2 Cancer's broadcast on September 5, Crush Kids' Cancer: David Archuleta's Angels will be doing our own fundraising challenge! Our goal is to raise as much money as we can for Crush Kids' Cancer within these two weeks!

To donate, click the big, orange DONATE button on the right, then click the red DONATE NOW button on our team page!

We want to see those numbers going up over the next 2 weeks, so please donate! No amount is too small and all of the proceeds go to Stand Up 2 Cancer to help find a cure! If you are unable to donate, we always appreciate spreading the word! Share with your friends and families, on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc!

Twitter Trending Party + Thunderclap

On Thursday, September 4, 2014, we want to trend on Twitter just like we did 2 years ago!

Trend: SU2C Crush Kids Cancer

Time: 9pm EST

Be sure to participate in our Thunderclap as well! We need at least 100 participants by September 2nd in order for our Thunderclap to happen! If you participate with Twitter, the tweets will be sent out on September 4th at 9pm EST during our trending party!
Crush Kids' Cancer's summer fundraising challenge starts... NOW!

For this project, all you have to do is purchase a Crush Kids' Cancer bumper sticker on our Zazzle store, display it somewhere (your car, your office, your room, etc.) and send us a picture! Buy one for every car you own, buy one for all of your office workers, give them as gifts at a BBQ! Be creative and spread the word!

Bumper Stickers cost $5.00 each and we receive 25% of the proceeds. That 25% will be donated to Crush Kids' Cancer: David Archuleta's Angels.

Email us your pictures and be sure to also post them on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc. and tweet us @TheKidsChapter!

The goal is to sell as many bumper stickers as possible, spread the word and raise as much for Crush Kids' Cancer as we can!

Tyler's Birthday Parade in Rhode Island

Credit to Bobby Rotondo
Today, March 6, 2014, is Tyler Seddon's 7th birthday. Tyler is a little boy from Rhode Island who is battling leukemia for a second time. He's known to love firefighters and policemen and wants to be both a firefighter and a policeman when he grows up.

A few weeks ago, I heard about Tyler's story on my local Boston news which spread the word about Tyler's aunt and mother's hopes to gather birthday cards from policemen and firefighters for Tyler. Upon learning this, I immediately thought of my cousin, Bobby, who is a firefighter for the Lynn Fire Department in Massachusetts. I contacted Bobby and shared with him Tyler's story and he was kind enough to plan on sending Tyler some birthday cards from his station.

What I didn't know, was that there was a parade being held for Tyler on his birthday in Rhode Island. Bobby and two others from his station attended the parade, along with 185 police cars, 30 fire engines and 12 motorcycles. Burillville, RI law enforcement made Tyler Chief of Police for the day and he received a special uniform and badge at a swearing-in ceremony. It was noted that Tyler also received almost 800 birthday cards and his family is overwhelmed with the wonderful response.

2013 David Archuleta Christmas/Birthday Project

As many of you may remember, last year around this time, The Kids' Chapter held our David Archuleta Christmas/Birthday Project, selling ornaments with proceeds going to Crush Kids' Cancer: David Archuleta's Angels as our Christmas and Birthday gift to David.

This year, we're at it again with a newly designed ornament made by The Kids' Chapter team member Lynsey!

From now (Nov 1) to the end of the year (Dec 31), you have the chance to purchase this new ornament and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Crush Kids' Cancer as our Christmas/Birthday gift to David!

The ornament is $13.95 and will hang nicely on every Archie's Christmas tree, or could be a great stocking stuffer! If you do not celebrate Christmas but still want to be a part of this project, you can always purchase an ornament and give it to someone you know will love it, or donate it to a local hospital, etc.

Like last year, after this project concludes, we will be letting David know how many ornaments sold and how much was raised for Crush Kids' Cancer!

Last year's project was a success, let's make this year's project an even bigger success!

Ashley recaps the Stand Up 2 Cancer event

After a long flight from Boston to L.A. early Friday morning, the day went by fast as the Stand Up 2 Cancer show was going to begin in just a few hours. After getting ready and heading to the Shrine Auditorium, I picked up my tickets and soon met up with PecanPie! It was great getting to talk to her again. Soon after, Mary Lou (Pastel) and Marge arrived! It was awesome getting to meet them!!

Eventually we took our seats and the show began. A lot of the stories shown were really sad but it made for an interesting feeling throughout the entire room as everyone watched these stories of people all going through the same thing, the thing that we were all here to stand up to and CRUSH. But it was really cool to see Justin Timberlake, Sofia Vergara and Robert Pattinson, to name a few, plus see Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw perform! It was also cool to see how a live show is done, and how quickly people have to move to keep it going.

Soon after, it ended and we met up with Mary Lou and Marge. We were all invited to a reception that Pecan would be speaking at afterward, so Mary Lou and Marge offered to bring us with them in their car so we would all be together. There was quite some confusion finding their hotel, but I didn’t mind because I got to see a lot more of L.A. that I originally wouldn’t have! lol

Finally we did make it to their hotel and hung out with them for a bit before taking a cab to the place where the reception was being held. It was a party with fancy food and swanky people, but I just liked getting to hang out with Pecan, Mary Lou and Marge. Then Dave Filice came! It was awesome getting to officially meet him and talk with him!

Then Pecan made her speech, and she did great. She talked about David and Crush Kids’ Cancer, then said little blurbs about each of us who were there and why we’re so dedicated to the team. I really liked how David and Crush Kids’ Cancer were still being celebrated that night, even though David isn‘t here.

Dave Filice, Marge, Mary Lou and myself

The rest of the night seemed to fly by and eventually we took off back to our hotel. It was a great first time in L.A. and a really special event to have gone to. It was awesome getting to see Pecan again, and also meeting Mary Lou, Marge and Dave!! They’re all some of the nicest people I’ve ever met and it was so much fun getting to hang out with them all.
