Tyler's Birthday Parade in Rhode Island

Today, March 6, 2014, is Tyler Seddon's 7th birthday. Tyler is a little boy from Rhode Island who is battling leukemia for a second time. He's known to love firefighters and policemen and wants to be both a firefighter and a policeman when he grows up.

A few weeks ago, I heard about Tyler's story on my local Boston news which spread the word about Tyler's aunt and mother's hopes to gather birthday cards from policemen and firefighters for Tyler. Upon learning this, I immediately thought of my cousin, Bobby, who is a firefighter for the Lynn Fire Department in Massachusetts. I contacted Bobby and shared with him Tyler's story and he was kind enough to plan on sending Tyler some birthday cards from his station.

What I didn't know, was that there was a parade being held for Tyler on his birthday in Rhode Island. Bobby and two others from his station attended the parade, along with 185 police cars, 30 fire engines and 12 motorcycles. Burillville, RI law enforcement made Tyler Chief of Police for the day and he received a special uniform and badge at a swearing-in ceremony. It was noted that Tyler also received almost 800 birthday cards and his family is overwhelmed with the wonderful response.
